Information on the Devastating Event
Soldier Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Gatherings across the state have taken place in their honor.
White House Offer
The president said he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Reaction
Community members came together over the weekend at a local school in West Virginia to pay respects to Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been working with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to assist public safety in DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that educators hoped for. She conducted herself with calm resilience, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that inspired people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the press. “She was kind, caring and always ready to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Steps and Government Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and cease providing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, according to the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on a news show that she planned to speak to Wolfe’s family.
Memory of Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with distinction, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she definitely had courage,” the governor informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
