The Gunners' Vital Defender Gabriel Could Be Out for at Least Four Weeks with Thigh Injury

The North London club worry that defender Gabriel Magalhães may be sidelined for at least 30 days after picking up a muscle strain while with the national team recently.

Gabriel limped off during Brazil's triumph against Senegal in a friendly at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and has since gone back to his club for further assessments.

Medical assessments are ongoing, and the club have not yet confirm the exact extent of the defender's absence.

However, he is not expected to play for the key clash with Tottenham on Sunday or the Champions League fixture with the German giants only afterwards.

Possible Absence and Missed Matches

Club sources worry that the defender could miss a minimum of four weeks, maybe longer, depending on the nature of the strain.

This would keep him out of multiple important games, including:

  • Domestic fixtures against the Blues and the Bees at the Emirates
  • An away trip to play Aston Villa
  • The Champions League clash at Brugge on December 10th

The Arsenal side—who presently hold a four-point advantage over Manchester City—then face Wolverhampton at home before a rescheduled trip to Everton on 20 December.

Significant Blow for Arsenal's Championship Bid

Losing such an influential player is a major problem for the Gunners in their title bid.

The defender has played each minute of the Premier League season so far and is crucial to a defense that has let in only five goals in 11 outings.

Before the latest 2-2 draw at Sunderland, the side had recorded 8 consecutive shutouts in all competitions.

Cover Choices and Additional Fitness Concerns

Mosquera and other summer arrival Piero Hincapié are likely candidates to replace the Brazilian against Spurs.

Additionally, there are questions over whether forward Viktor Gyökeres will return to play up front after sitting out the club's final two matches before the international break due to a muscle issue.

Meanwhile, German coach Nagelsmann revealed that Kai Havertz has experienced a “slight setback” during his comeback from a joint injury.

While Mikel Arteta had been optimistic about the attacker's return this weekend, the national team boss suggested that Havertz is now expected to return in late December.

Squad Tested to the Maximum

The club experienced their championship bid undermined previously by a succession of fitness issues and spent significantly in the summer to reinforce the squad.

However, with skipper Ødegaard also on the absentee list—alongside Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli—the squad is under strain significantly.
