Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
