Fans Urge Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of the pop star are urging that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video reveals the individual from Australia bypassing camera operators and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a promenade accompanied by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though legal records indicated that he was scheduled to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains clips of him disturbing other high-profile occasions, including breaching the performance area at the artist's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the area last year.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," stated an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said one more message on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted security officers at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In videos circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by guards.
Grande has remained silent on the incident, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Many of supporters had congregated in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good international premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it started.
The film, to be launched on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a dual version of the acclaimed theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two very different sorceresses.
The show itself is a spin-off of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a rosé glittering gown at the event while Erivo, who acts as the Elphaba, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, earning a pair for outstanding attire and artistic direction.
