Condemnation Erupts as Former President Trump's Post on Rob Reiner Ignites Widespread Criticism

Individuals from both sides of the political spectrum and the Hollywood industry are uniting to condemn Donald Trump for his remarks following the shocking passing of esteemed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Social Media Post

Following the discovery of the couple dead at their Los Angeles residence, Trump took to his platform to describe the deceased director as "tortured and suffering". The post, he asserted Reiner's demise was "because of the anger he caused others through his enormous, unyielding, and untreatable affliction with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments then pivoted to praising his own achievements, juxtaposing Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump described as the "Golden Age of America".

Law Enforcement Developments and Arrest

Police have since confirmed the arrest of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on charges related to murder in connection with the case. Reports indicate his bond was established at a substantial sum.

A Wave of Condemnation from Public Figures

The reaction to Trump's words was swift and harsh.

“What a vile and despicable comment,” remarked public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Television host Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, similarly condemned the remarks. Goldberg referenced previous comments from Trump regarding political violence, asking, "Have you no shame? Can you get any worse?"

The state of California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, succinctly stated, "This is a sick man."

Mirroring this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "He is a contemptible piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy commented, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying Rob and Michele Reiner caused their own murder because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Rebuke from Within Party

A number of Republican lawmakers also expressed disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the situation was "a personal tragedy, not about politics or rivals". Greene also alluded to challenges with substance abuse and psychological well-being some families face.

Another Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" given the nature of the deaths. He openly dared members in his party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a vocal detractor of Donald Trump. During a past interview, he argued Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the presidency. He had also warned about the dangers of autocracy should Trump be reelected to power.

"We see authoritarianism on the rise around the world," Reiner said. "If we fall, there’s a risk that democracy collapse around the world."

Regardless of his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously expressed "absolute horror" and denounced political violence without reservation following the killing of another political figure.

A Notable Link: The Art of the Deal

Adding a element of past irony, Michele Reiner, formerly Michele Singer, was the photographer who shot the photograph for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once shared the anecdote of the photo shoot, noting Trump's request for "a specific hair product" as being photographed on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
